To obtain the biomass for CBDay Plus extraction, Enecta used their own variety of cannabis, Enectaliana. This allowed them to reduce costs and, most importantly, offer a truly full spectrum.

Production of Enectaliana, a high CBD variety tailored to the extraction industry

One of the reasons why Enecta has embarked on breeding its own variety of cannabis for extraction is the severe shortage of 100% extractable varieties.

Most of the varieties registered in the EU are still primarily aimed at fibre production.

This is a key problem for the whole sector. Most CBD oils come from low-performing biomass, so producers need more of it to get a decent amount of extracted cannabinoids and terpenes, in line with the label claim, whether it is 5 or 10%.

Another key issue is that the extraction of CBD oil from low quality biomass, combined with aggressive extraction methods, results in low quality CBD oils.

Enectaliana enters the game

It took five years of research, field and laboratory trials and constant effort, but today Enecta can finally say it was worth it. The variety has been registered with the CPVO (Community Plant Variety Office) and will become the first EU certified variety adapted for extraction.

There is no other variety that offers such a carefully selected combination of terpenes and phytocannabinoids.

CBD, CBG, CBC, CBN and beta carophyllene, nerolidol, alpha humulene, bisabolol. 

All these substances form an interesting phytocomplex, which is very important as more and more studies are showing that the benefits of cannabis are complex rather than individual.
