CBD oils and drops are a hemp extract, it is a combination of a cannabinoid extract from the cannabis plant and a carrier oil. Carrier oils are used to dilute the CBD and improve bioavailability. Most commonly used are vegetable glycerin or vegetable oils such as MCT (coconut, palm oil), sunflower, olive, avocado or hemp seed oil.

• CBD isolates are made up of CBD only; other components such as cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids are not present.

The form of CBD influences the shelf life, with the purest form of CBD (e.g. isolates) usually lasting longer. Full spectrum and broad spectrum products contain more plant material, which means a shorter shelf life.

In the case of full spectrum and broad spectrum products, an 'entourage effect' may occur. This is known as the entourage effect and is characterised by the fact that the effect of individual cannabinoids and other active substances may be increased when taken together.
