Packaging, appearance and design

I was delighted as soon as I opened the box. The Wix package contains everything you need to get started right away. In addition to the pen itself, you also get a dabber, a cleaning stick, a replacement mouthpiece screen, a USB-C charging cable and a quick start guide.

When I picked up the Wix for the first time, I was surprised by how small and elegant it really is. The shiny black body of the vaporizer is made of aluminium and has a carbon fibre coating for added durability. It measures just over 12 cm in height and less than 1.5 cm in diameter.

On the front of the device is a control button with a small LED that serves as a mode indicator and battery status indicator.

The mouthpiece is made of zirconium, so it not only looks great but also guarantees high heat resistance — the manufacturer claims that it is up to 20 times more resistant than standard plastic or glass mouthpieces, so it should not get hot on your lips when you take a puff.

In practice, however, it does not work as one would hope — after a few puffs at higher power, the mouthpiece unfortunately gets quite hot, so it is a good idea to take longer breaks between puffs.

Under the mouthpiece is a borosilicate glass atomizer containing a ceramic heating coil. This combination promises to preserve the purest flavour of the extract.

 

Compatibility

The Flowermate Wix is designed exclusively for vaporising concentrates such as waxes, raw resin or crystals. It is not intended for dried herbs or liquid e-liquids.

This is a specialised dab pen. Although its single-purpose focus may seem like a disadvantage, it is precisely this specialisation that allows it to take full advantage of its design benefits and offer great flavour and vapour without the need for complicated settings.

The atomiser connects to the battery via a standard 510 thread and is replaceable, so it can be easily replaced with a new one when worn out.

Some may wonder if the standard 510 thread would allow the battery to be used with standard pre-filled cartridges. Although the device has a 510 thread and its performance modes correspond to the voltage of standard cartridge batteries, the manufacturer does not officially mention or support this option.

The Wix is designed for use with the supplied atomizer and your own concentrate, and you should not use it in any other way.

If you are looking for a pen that you can also use with cartridges, look for something that is designed for this purpose.

How do you use the pen?

This vaporiser is very easy to operate and maintain, even for beginners.

Wix offers three different power modes – switched by triple-clicking and indicated by the colour of the LED. Blue for the lowest power was ideal when I wanted to get the most flavour from the extract, while when the LED was red, the draw was intense and the vapour thick.

Personally, I liked the medium power indicated by the green LED the best, which is a great compromise between the blue and red modes.

Temperature settings in degrees or airflow control? Don't look for that in the Wix. Apart from the three power modes mentioned above, the pen offers no other settings. Honestly, though, this is not something you would expect at this price point. There are few competing devices in the same price range, and they either have similarly limited features or offer no settings at all and focus solely on performance.

The battery capacity is 350 mAh, and its life, apart from the frequency of use, is of course also affected by the performance mode you use. If you only vape occasionally and at the lowest power, the pen will last for a few days when fully charged, but if you vape frequently and at higher power, you will need to recharge it every day. When the battery is low, the LED flashes red.

Charging via USB-C is convenient and relatively fast, taking less than an hour to fully charge. Wix also supports use while charging, which I don't use myself, but I'm sure many users will appreciate it.

Maintenance takes just a few minutes. After each session, simply wipe the residue from the atomizer with a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Once in a while, it is a good idea to clean the mouthpiece as well – remove it and rinse it with hot water. The atomizer is replaceable, so once the coil becomes clogged or loses performance, it can be easily replaced with a new one.

Who is the pen suitable (or unsuitable) for?

The pen is ideal for those looking for an affordable and compact device designed specifically for vaping concentrates that offers at least some customisation options. It is ideal for complete beginners in the world of vaping, but it will also be appreciated by undemanding advanced users who want a pen specifically for extracts that they can carry with them everywhere.

If you already have some experience with dabbing and are looking for a device that will give you a comprehensive experience, Wix will not be enough for you and you will have to look in a different price range.

How does the Flowermate Wix compare to the competition?

For comparison, I chose compact pens designed for concentrates. It's hard to find competition in the Wix price range, but if you're willing to increase your budget, there are other interesting options worth considering.

If you have limited funds and are looking for a vape specifically for concentrates, you will be hard pressed to find a better dab pen than the Flowermate Wix. However, if you are willing to pay a little more, you will have a wider range of options.

The Flowermate Aura, for roughly double the price, can handle not only extracts, but also dried herbs and oils, and also allows for precise digital temperature control.

The Linx Hypnos Zero, designed exclusively for concentrates, is a bit more expensive, but excels with its exceptionally good taste and smooth vapour. Puffco Dab Pen is also exclusively a dab pen and falls into a higher price category, but offers more pronounced vapour and a unique Sesh mode – an automatic 12-second heating function without the need to hold down a button.

 

Conclusion

Considering the price, Wix performs great. For the price of a nice dinner for two, you get a compact and elegant dab pen with three settings. The covers are tasty, and the ceramic mouthpiece and coil in the atomizer really do their job.

However, I was disappointed that the zirconium mouthpiece heats up so much during continuous use. Another drawback is the weaker battery, but on the other hand, I appreciate the relatively fast charging via a USB-C cable, which also allows you to use the device.

If you are looking for an inexpensive dab pen made of quality materials with adjustable settings, I would definitely recommend the Flowermate Wix with a clear conscience, whether you are a beginner or have been vaping for a while.
