Which dosage of CBD to choose for your pet dog

Facts that you should take into consideration due to treatment for your pet with the help of CBD

Before we look at particularities concerning the dosage of CBD for dogs, it is crucial to have a look at some of basic facts.

Bear in mind, number of factors can influence the right CBD dosage, which your animal needs.

One of the main factors influencing the CBD dosage of products is a type of product which you use (A supplementary product should also be something that you should consider).

CBD products are usually disposable in two forms:

Another significant factor influencing the dosage is the size of your pet. Bigger dogs require more CBD. Companies of products of high-quality furnish the products with their own manuals in which the doses are directly specified. They will have a specific formula for their products based on the weight of your dog. And finally, do not forget that the disease of your dog can also influence how much he should receive.

CBD dosage basics

Generally, CBD oils are always administered in drops. The exact amount of drops which is necessary for a dose can differ in individual products but they are usually formed from 2-4 drops used 2-4 times a day. You can also adjust the dosage in the relation to the size of your pet and his condition as mentioned above. CBD capsules, on the contrary, usually contain 5-20 mg of CBD each.

It is again true that the exact number of capsules needed for the dosage differentiates in individual products but usually it is approximately 1 pill used 1-2 times a day. On the contrary of oils and capsules, CBD treatments for dogs can contain various concentrations of CBD and they should be administered to your pet according to instructions on the package. Always, whichever type of CBD you use, we recommend you to proceed according to instructions for the dosage which arrive with the product and on the basis of your dog reactions, adjust doses.

The dosage of CBD oil

Regular daily dose = 0.5 mg x 1 kg

Do not get frightened by these formulas. These instructions can look a bit difficult in the beginning but they are not. If you have a little dog, under 10 kg, you need less CBD.

If you have for example a dog which weights 6 kg, here is the formula:

 6 kg x 0.5 mg = 3 mg of CBD

How to give CBD oil to your dog

Ideally, CBD oil should be administered directly into your pet´s mouth, preferably under his tongue. As you certainly know, dogs are not overly willing to use medicaments so it could be a bit complicated. Be patient and do not forget that your pet can even get used to the administering of CBD oil.

If you, however, still have problems, try to reward the dogs with their favourite treat.

If it still does not work, maybe you might want to consider switching to capsules.

Dosage of CBD capsules

The same formula is true for capsules:

Regular dosage is 0.5 mg x 1 kg

So if your dog weights for example 20 kg, the regular dosage would be:

20 kg x 0.5 mg = 10 mg of CBD

Administering of CBD capsules for dogs

Capsules are easier administered than CBD oil. You could either open the capsule, and mix its content with regular food of your pet, or you wrap the whole capsule into some snack. In any case, make sure that your pet receives the whole content of the capsule to get the right dose.

Can your dog receive too much CBD?

Bear in mind that CBD is not any psychoactive compound. It means that your pet will not be drugged. Numerous studies have shown that CBD is tolerated very-well, even in high doses. In reality, CBD does not have any known toxicity and is considered a compound unable to cause “overdosing”.

Choosing the right product (oil or capsule)

Many pets’ owners try to decide which product they will use for their pets. We generally recommend using CBD oil every time when it is possible. In use under tongue, CBD oil provides the fastest relief from symptoms. Capsules have to pass through the digestive tract and can last up to 45 minutes before their effect evinces. However, do not forget that healing by CBD oil is the most demanding to control and it has the most piercing taste. That is why, if your dog is a bit picky and sensitive to strong flavours, the use of capsules can bring better results. If your pet is not able to eat properly, you should use CBD oil to ensure that he will get his medicament correctly.

Final thoughts about these recommendations for the dosage

In this article, we focused on the basics of the CBD dosage for your pets. Do not forget that these are only basic instructions and they can change in relation to the size of your animal, his condition and the type of product that you use. Moreover, remember that CBD is a non-toxic compound and cannot cause overdosing.
