Six Positive Effects of CBD oils

Oils containing cannabidiol (CBD) are produced by the extraction of active ingredients from hemp plants, which they get mixed with high-quality edible oils. CBD belongs among cannabinoids that naturally occur in hemp plants in the highest amount. It is not responsible for changing users’ consciousness and thus getting them high.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the guilty one here, due to these effects, it is classified as an illegal substance. In the following lines, you will find out about the six most interesting points explaining why you should try the benefits of its legally affordable cousin, CBD

Anxiety

CBD oils help with anxiety. Research has pointed out at the possibility that CBD might affect the way how specific receptors in the brain react with serotonin (a hormone that affects mental health). These tiny brain receptors consist of protein and are located within cells, where they respond to chemical stimuli, helping the cells to function correctly. Studies dedicated to research such behavior have concluded that just about 600 milligrams of CBD has helped people who suffered from anxiety to speak in the public. Different studies, which have been performed on animals, revealed that CBD could help with anxiety as it:

  • Reduces stress
  • Lowers the negative effects of anxiety, such as tachycardia
  • Helps to reduce the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Supports sleep

Epilepsy

Perhaps you have learned in media that CBD might be a good help

with treating epilepsy. Clinical studies presented on human patients have only been introduced within this area. Namely, tests are being performed to find out what amount of CBD is needed to reduce epileptic seizures and how safe this treatment is. The American Epilepsy Society (AES) notes that the results represent good hope for patients with epilepsy. Research is currently focused on finding the safest ways of CBD use. In a 2016 study, 214 patients were administered with doses from two to five milligrams of CBD together with their standard medication. The results showed that the participants had 36.5 percent less frequent seizures per month on average. However, 12% experienced unpleasant CBD side effects.

Neurodegenerative conditions

Many studies are focused on brain receptors and are looking at potential benefits in treating neurodegenerative conditions. They mostly cause a gradual loss of brain cells and the overall deterioration of the function of the nervous system. The brain receptor closely linked with cannabinoids is called the CB1 receptor. Currently, studies focus primarily on whether CBD would be suitable for treating:

  • Alzheimer disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Stroke

CBD oils are well known for their anti-inflammatory effects, and it also known that neurodegenerative conditions are accompanied by inflammation processes in the brain. Although we have gained a good knowledge so far, there is still some way ahead of us that we need to cover in order to earn a great understanding of how cannabinoids and other compounds in the hemp plant influence the brain and the nervous system. More clinical research on human patients is needed.

Pain

The effects that CBD has on brain receptors could also be beneficial in trying to relieve pain. Studies have pointed out very promising results relating to the use of cannabis to reduce the negative side effects of chemotherapy. Furthermore, the National Institutes of Health is behind financing studies concentrating on the effects of CBD and other cannabinoids on pain accompanied during:

Skin conditions

The overall effect of CBD on the immune system could possibly work as prevention of inflammation within the whole body. Results show that this cannabinoid helps with dermatitis or acne. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation discovered that CBD suppresses the activity of the sebaceous glands. Although the produced sebum moisturizes the skin, its excess, on the other hand, often leads to the development of acne. However, in order to find out more about this relation, further research involving clinical tests on human patients is still needed.

Oncological disease

Recently, some studies have focused on the role of cannabinoids in preventing the growth of cancer cells. Yet, these clinical studies are still in the early phase. The National Cancer Institute (NCI), however, already states that CBD could help with handling cancer symptoms and side effects that occur during conventional treatment. NCI does not recommend neither discourage the use of cannabis as a treatment for cancer. Yet, it has been repeatedly established during clinical tests on animals that CBD can affect cancer cells, reducing inflammation and affecting their growth.

How to use CBD oils

CBD is obtained from cannabis plants through extraction. The extracts get further processed either in crystalline or pure CBD form, or they get mixed with edible oil (In this case, they contain other substances present in hemp – cannabinoids, terpenes,  etc.). In addition to oils, both pure CBD and its extracts can be added together with other substances into creams, capsules, suppositories, or gels. The method of application and the type of the CBD product depends primarily on the type of disease or condition.

Side effects of CBD

For the vast majority of users, CBD does not pose any great risks. Exceptionally, side effects such as low blood pressure, insomnia, or irritability may occur. Although there is a lot of evidence based on research on cell cultures and animals, in terms of both the negative and positive effects of CBD, unfortunately, the lack of high-quality clinical tests with human participation is the reason why we still have a lot of unanswered questions.
