Is drinking hemp tea worth it?

In ancient India, hemp tea was known as Bhang. It was produced from a powder of hemp flowers and leaves. Hemp was added into milk with clarified butter and spices, such as nutmeg, cinnamon and clove (together with a bit of sugar or honey).

Bhang is known because it helps due to anxiety, fever, dysentery or heatstroke. It also helps due to mucosal disorders, digestive diseases and also increases appetite. Indian sadhus still use this drink during meditation and yoga which helps reaching transcendental consciousness.

Many Rastafarians in Jamaica also consume this tea. They produce it from young plants which are not fully mature thanks to which they have only minimal psychoactive effects. In Jamaica, mothers even serve it to their children to keep them healthy.

You will find the recipe how to prepare hemp tea using various methods below.

Tea from hemp stems

You might be saying: “Moment. Hemp stems? Really?” Yes, stems also contain a little amount of cannabinoids and other substances contained in the plant. Moreover, a tea from hemp stems is soft, and not as strong as that from flowers or leaves. From a practical point of view it is also favourable that you can use the stems instead of throwing them.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup of hemp stems (in the case you would like to have a stronger tea, add more stems)
  • 1 cup of full-fat milk or 12 % cream
  • 3 cups of water
  • Cane sugar
  • Honey

Procedure:

As the first step, mix stems in the coffee grinder. Then pour full-fat milk into a medium-sized pot and bring to a full boil over medium heat. As the next step, add grinded stems and cook approximately for five to seven minutes. Do not forget to stir the mixture frequently and watch it constantly!

Then use fine coffee or tea filter in order to strain the mix into a cup. You will maybe need to mix it a bit to get the whole liquid through the filter. Now you should have ½ cup of full-fat milk at your disposal.

Prepare your own big cup and pour boiled water to the middle of the cup. Add ¼ cup of specially prepared milk (it should be a half dose of what you have prepared). It is enough for two cups. According to the taste, sweeten with cane sugar. Add a little bit of honey to supress even more the taste of milk.

Easy recipe how to prepare hemp tea from flowers

Hemp tea can also be prepared from flowers. But do remember that a tea from flowers or buds will be noticeably stronger than a tea prepared from hemp stems. We use butter to dissolve the THC, because it is not accessible in water.

Ingredients:

  • 0.5 g of hemp flowers
  • ½ tablespoon of butter
  • Tea bag of flavour of your choice
  • 1 ½ cup of water
  • Sugar or honey (as you choose)

Procedure:

Blend the flowers. Mix them with the butter until it is completely covered. To speed-up, it is possible to use already prepared butter. Empty the content of tea bag and fill it up with the mixture of hemp and butter. Cut off the top part of bag with scissors, empty the tea and fill the bag up with the crushed hemp with a tea spoon. Fold the bag over several times to prevent spilling of the content. If you have a metal sieve on tea, you could use it instead of the bag. You could also use a coffee filter. Place the cannabis in the middle of the filter, then grasp its corners which you tie up together through which you create a tea bag. Bring water to a moderate boil at medium heat.

Watch out that the water will not boil completely. Slowly boil the tea bag in the water for twenty minutes. In case that the water boils, decrease the temperature. If the water evaporates, add more water so you have enough. If you want to hide the cannabis flavour, put a tea bag of your choice during the last three minutes.

Take the mixture away from the stove and take the tea bag out. The hemp tea will be hot, so let it cool down for five minutes. If you want, add honey or sugar. Bon appetite!

How to prepare tea from the raw hemp without psychoactive effects

Preparing a tea from the raw hemp is simple. It also offers a good opportunity to enjoy advantages of non-active THC without psychoactive effects – it means without tetrahydrocannabinol acid (THCA). This acid resembles much more a dietary supplement than a “drug”. It offers many healing advantages but it does not have any effects on psychics.

Ingredients:

  • 0.5 g of fresh hemp leaves or flowers
  • 1 cup of water

Procedure:

Carefully crush or grind 0.5 g of hemp leaves or flowers. Fill a tea egg with a teaspoon of grinded cannabis or wrap it up into a coffee filter. Place the metal egg or filter into a cup. Bring water to a moderate boil, avoid the complete boiling. This prevents decarboxylation and activation of THC from THCA. Pour hot water into a cup with cannabis. Let it leach for five minutes. The leaching time can be adjusted based on your choice to have the tea stronger or weaker.
