Optional accessories

If you want to make the most of the Firefly2+, you'll need a good herb crusher. This is because well-crushed herb heats up more evenly and creates a better vaping experience. You can make loading easier with Quick Grinder V3 - It has a special dumping function, which makes its use very practical. All components are made of stainless steel and the whole mechanism can be disassembled using an ordinary screwdriver.

Design

Firefly 2+ looks very similar to the original Firefly 2. The main difference is that 2+ has a window that highlights the new logo located below the viewport. Other than this new addition, everything else is basically the same, which is good because Firefly 2 was designed very well.

You'll still find an easy-to-use magnetic cover, and the same goes for the touch sensors on both sides of the device. The way the touch sensors are positioned means you have to hold the vaporizer in a way that looks and feels unnatural. This will prevent you from accidentally turning it on. You can play around with the smartphone app, so you only need to use one of the sensors, but then it can accidentally trigger in your pocket.

Luckily you don't have to hold it for too long, each drag is about the same as a whole session with other vaporizers. The smartphone app allows you to adjust the controls so you don't have to hold both sensors at the same time, making it a little easier to use.

The Firefly2+ is quite large, but its shape makes it easy to carry. The rounded edges are more pocket-friendly than most vaporizers, as they make it easy to store and remove from your pocket. This makes it easy to take advantage of the 'on-demand' feature, allowing you to take a quick puff once or twice on the go. There's no need to worry about the mouthpiece getting dirty, as you can easily remove it if needed.

The body and cap of the Model 2+ are made of magnesium and the display plate is made of quartz. The heating chamber is made of ceramic alloy, which in conjunction with the borosilicate glass air vent ensures the purity of the vaporized herb. The Firefly 2+ is built with the quality you would expect from a vaporizer in this price range. Although the Firefly2+ is a bit more complex than other dry herb vaporizers, it is not a difficult nut to use.

Apps for smartphones

The Firefly2+ smartphone app is quite good. It gives you a larger temperature range than you can get on the device itself. On the vaporizer, you can select the temperature from 160°C to 215°C in 8 degree increments. With the app, you can go from 90°C to 215°C in 4 degree increments. The app also provides you with useful tutorial videos and allows you to customize the button configuration.

Features

On-demand heating is an exceptional feature of the Firefly 2+ as it is the only vaporizer of the two with this feature now available. The other is the Ghost MV1. On-demand warm-up means that the vaporizer will warm up and cool down almost instantly. This gives users the freedom to vape a single batch whenever they want.

With conventional session vaporizers, the user must heat the entire chamber in one session, while on-demand heating allows the user to divide the chamber into different mini-sessions depending on readiness. On-demand heating makes it easier for users to micro-dose if that is their preference, this option is not available with session vaporizers.

How to use it

With dry herbs

  • Remove the cap, place your herb in the chamber and then replace the cap
  • Gently press the touch sensors to start the heating process
  • Once the logo stops flashing and turns green, the heating is complete
  • Pull from the mouthpiece for seven to ten seconds
  • If there is herb in the chamber, you can repeat steps 2 to 4 whenever you like

With concentrates

  • Remove the cap and insert the concentrate pad into the heating chamber
  • Apply some concentrate to the pad and then replace the cap
  • Gently press both touch sensors to start the heating process
  • Once the logo stops flashing and turns green, heating is complete
  • Pull from the mouthpiece for seven to ten seconds

Cleaning and maintenance

The Firefly 2+ is a very low maintenance device, but that doesn't mean that no maintenance is required. So don't hesitate to do whatever you can to keep it clean. For the warming chamber, you can use a small brush to clean up larger bits of residue.

You can continue with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to wipe the chamber and finish the job. You can also use alcohol-soaked wipes to clean the airway. As for the mouthpiece, you can choose a suitable tool from the cleaning kit to clean any residue.

Performance and vapour quality

Vapour quality for dry herbs

2+ produces no vapour as most of it is evaporated and inhaled. This means that no terpenes come to naught, no big clouds are produced, but the coatings are very strong.

Thanks to the dynamic convection heating, the Firefly 2 had some of the best dry herb flavors. Full enjoyment was difficult because the drag resistance was higher than usual. The 2+ doesn't have this problem because the drag resistance is much lower and it's much easier for the lungs to inhale all the tasty vapor. The resistance is still higher than most other vaporizers, but still much better than before.

The ideal length of each puff is about ten to thirty seconds, and each one acts as its own mini session as it is stronger than the same puffs in other vaporizers. Even if you're a vaping veteran, it might be better to start off lightly, this goes double for newbies. Regardless of your experience level, you never have to worry about the vapor getting hot, no matter what temperature setting you choose. This is because the glass air path helps cool the vapor before it reaches the mouthpiece.

Since the Firefly2+ is a pure convection type vaporizer, you will need to stir the herb every now and then. When you stir it is up to your discretion, but I found that every three to four puffs was sufficient. However, if you want the flavor to last as long as possible, you can stir the herb after each drag.

Vapour quality of concentrates

The performance of concentrates is weaker than that of herbs because Firefly 2+ does not reach the high temperatures that wax concentrates need to fully evaporate. Plus, it's not very convenient because you have to insert the concentrate pad every time you want to vape.

The performance of concentrates is not bad, but it is not a reason to buy Firefly2+. I would stick to vaping herbs when using the Firefly 2+ as that is where its strengths lie.

Better if you don't use your main herb vaporizer for concentrates. Not only does this make it harder to clean, you'll also have to clean it more often. If you want to use extracts, a vaporizer pen is a better choice. It works perfectly with your extracts and will keep your herbal vaporizer in top shape.

Battery power

On a single charge I could achieve an average of sixty-four sessions. This is because I got about eight kettles per charge and about eight pulls per kettle. You could probably achieve more sessions with a lower temperature setting. Recharging is very fast, taking about forty-five minutes. The battery is removable, but can only be charged when it is in the vaporizer. This means you lose the benefits of a replaceable battery.
